— About the shoot
Thinking about giving clay pigeon shooting a go? Or maybe you’re an old hand. We have the facilities to offer a great day of sporting shooting or team shooting at any level. We can also provide everything you need to get started.
The shooting takes place in a sporting set-up, in gullies and amongst trees in our scenic fields. We move the stands around, month-by-month, so that you can enjoy a different target each time you visit. We lay out 18 different stands sporting stands including a 6-trap grouse butt and 6 trap pheasant stand, so there’s little risk of queuing, even when we’re busy.
We also have a dedication under cover beginners’ area for those of you who are just getting into the sport or bringing friends to have a go. As well as all this we have an undercover compac area and additional a DTL/ABT set up.

— Location overview
Crabtree is situated in the South Lakes just 5 minuets drive off junction 36 of the M6, halfway between the junction and Kirkby Lonsdale on the A65. 20-minute drive from Lake Windermere, 15 minutes from Lancaster. We boast stunning views of Farleton Knott and the beautiful surrounding landscape rolling on towards the Lake District Hills.
If you are making a day of it and are looking for things to do after your shoot, we are surrounded by beautiful scenic walks, country pubs and the stunning market town Kirkby Lonsdale. The Plough restaurant at the shoot road end is a must after a great days shooting. About the shoot

— The cabin
Our cabin is the friendly hub of the shoot. Here you can pay for your session, stop for refreshments, get some tips from fellow shooters and refuel at lunchtime or teatime. We’re able to arrange catering on request, but the Saturday pie delivery is a long-standing tradition so make sure you put your order in!
— Tuition
We offer a range of tuition at Crabtree including one to one session for experience shots and a range of packages for people wanting to have a shooting experience for the first time.
If you’re a first-timer you can borrow everything you need as part of our first timer package.
— The traps
We have over 60 automatic traps at the Crabtree Clay Pigeon Shoot. For those of you who don’t know; these traps enable you to ‘throw’ clays at the press of a button with no need to move from your stand, and no need to rope in a ‘Puller’ to operate the trap using the delay feature on each stand if you are a solo shooter. License holders can just turn up, book in and shoot.
— Air rifle range
A recent new edition to the shoot the Air Rifle range which offers a variety of spinner and knock down targets over 7 different ranges all offering woodland and open field shooting to test your skills. For experienced shots its £7 per session. In edition we offer tuition packages where we will guide you through the procedure and get you hitting targets safely, all equipment can be provided. This costs £25 per tutored session per person and this is suitable for all ages and group sizes.
— Guns ammo & safety equipment
Guns are available for hire at only a small charge to license holders (to cover wear and tear). Of course, you’re welcome to bring your own gun if you have one and have a licence.
Fibre wad cartridges are available to buy at £5.50 per box of 25. If you’d like to bring your own supply, please note that we only allow use of fibre wad cartridges on the site. This rule is in place to keep our landscape clean of discarded plastic casing.
We supply basic eye and ear protection free of charge. It’s advisable to bring your own protection if you have it, for your peace of mind.
— Site rules
* Ear protection must be worn when shooting.
* Eye protection is recommended.
* Head protection is recommended (some sort of hat or a cap).
* No alcohol to have been consumed prior to shooting, or on the clay ground at any time.
* No irresponsible behaviour that could put your own safety, and that of others, at risk.
* Guns must be empty of cartridges when not in use. Carrying loaded guns around the site is forbidden.
* All guns must be ‘broken’ when walking around. Your instructor will explain what this means.
* Guns must only be aimed at the targets, even when not loaded.
* Sensible footwear must be worn. This is an outdoor activity and slipping could cause accidents.
* Any incidents or safety issues must be reported immediately to a member of staff.
* If you see another visitor behaving irresponsibly or unsafely, please inform a member of staff immediately.
* License holder must bring licenses with them when attending the Shoot
